For your eyes only

It has often been said that one should keep their underwear as a secret, something intimate, but there has been an increase in showing a little more lingerie outside the boudoir, so long as it is always done with class.

The idea of delicate lace being seen by people other than yourself or your partner can be daunting, however it is also empowering. Whether it is simply showing the bridge of the bra you are wearing or the edge of your slip, you take control of how much you want on show without making you feel uncomfortable. Simply showing a subtle touch of lingerie can turn a mundane everyday outfit into something sexy and seductive.

Bralets take the idea of wearing underwear as outerwear to a comfortable milieu without feeling too exposed. Teamed with a pair of high-waisted trousers or jeans, no one is aware that what they are seeing is in fact something more intimate than a simple crop top. But let’s not forget about that slip dress, whether it is day or night, have the courage to step out in just a slip and a pair of barely there sandals to be the belle of the ball.

The catwalk is ladened with a subtle touch of visible lingerie. Louis Vuitton brought the slip into light during their A/W catwalk show in 2013 and next season the trend is returning. This time though, it’s about going that step further and daring to be bold.

Colour is the word to remember. Leave the black lace you dared to go out in last season for the bedroom and choose something more playful to leave the house in. From hot pinks to dark greens, take your pick and make sure to match your lipstick to it.

Wearing underwear as outerwear is all about having the confidence to step out with your intimates on view without feeling the eyes of every person burying into you. Take the step like all those empowered women and make a statement with colourful bridges and lace on view.
